The Dendera Temples are a Ptolemaic-Roman complex in the village of Dendera.
The present temple dates back to the Greco-Roman period.
The temple was dedicated to the goddess Hathor. Construction began in 116 BC under Ptolemy and was completed by the Roman Emperor Trajan.
The area includes, in addition to the main temple, two mammisi (birthhouses), a small temple for the goddess Isis, and a sanatorium.
There are remnants of a church and a sacred lake.
The Dendera Temple has a beautiful architectural style and is considered one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt.
The interior and exterior walls of the temple are adorned with images showing the kings making offerings.
The temple is characterized by the wonderful Hathor columns, the crypts, and the staircase leading to the roof.
On the temple roof, there is a chapel for Hathor, and there are also rooms with depictions of the story of the death and resurrection of Osiris.
On the ceiling, there is also the famous zodiac calendar.
On the outer wall of the temple, there is a depiction of Queen Cleopatra with her son Caesarion.
