The city of Abydos is located about 153 km north of Luxor, and the most important structure in Abydos is the mortuary temple of Seti I, which was completed by his son Ramses. The temple features the so-called Royal List, which shows all the pharaohs from Menes (the founder of the First Dynasty) to Seti. The temple has a large facade with 12 square columns, followed by a hypostyle hall. It contains seven chapels for seven gods. The walls of the temple are covered with beautiful reliefs depicting the king performing rituals before various gods. Behind the temple is the so-called Osireion, or the symbolic tomb of Osiris
