Dendera
Dendera is the Arabic name for the ancient Egyptian city of Ionet. In antiquity, Dendera was the cult center of the goddess Hathor, goddess of love, music, and celebration. The ancient Greeks equated Hathor with their goddess Aphrodite. The temple is considered one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt. It is a masterpiece of architecture, a unique example of art, and a comprehensive book of Egyptian religion. The Temple of Dendera was built on the west bank of the Nile for the worship of the Hathor triad. Its construction dates back to the Greco-Roman period when King Ptolemy III erected it from sandstone. Many Roman emperors added extensions, so the construction process lasted about 200 years. The Temple of Dendera is one of the few temples where two triads are worshiped: the first is the Hathor triad, the second is the Osiris triad. The temple is famous for the astronomical scenes on the ceiling, which depict kings and emperors making sacrifices. This temple is also distinguished by its crypts with beautiful reliefs.
